[ HISTORY ]
In the beginning, Hands of Fate was a small, but incredibly friendly guild. There was usually a 60 or two on our roster, never more than three at any time. We had a culture Tular coined as the "Hey Norm" feeling. Every time anyone logged on, or dinged, the guild would be sure to say hi or congrats. With everyone busy leveling, guild chat was fairly quiet most of the time, unless Rolnak was on. Lass would tell a bad pun from time to time, but swearing was always strongly discouraged. We never tried to be the biggest guild on the server, or the farthest in progression, but we always strived to be the most fun. As far as I know, we are still the only guild that regularly has parties, and we have been doing so, almost from the very beginning. (We went to deadmines during our first party!) We love spending an evening now and then, doing nothing of any value other than sharing fun and memories with good friends. This is one thing that has remained unchanged as the guild has grown and leveled.
As a young guild, we couldn't run many instances together, until about Mara. I still remember pugging Ulda, and hating it. As people got into their mid 50's they would leave HoF for end game guilds. Fuku, Lass, and Tular said goodbye to many, many, dear friends. Many of them left an alt in the guild, most notably Alalia (Phloria).
We three vowed to stay when we hit 60 and build up the ability to do endgame within HoF. That way our friends wouldn't have to scatter across the server. I doubt there are any big endgame guilds without an HoF graduate or two.
At last, Fuku, Lass and Tular hit 60, stayed, and convinced a few others to do so. The rank Honor Guard was created to recognize the first 50 60's within HoF to stay. They chose friendship over fast or easy loot. That dedication is still required to earn a promotion to Honor Guard today. Day by day, toon by toon, HoF crept toward a critical mass of 60's whereby it was no longer a sacrifice to stay.
I write this the morning after our first boss down in BWL. Our little friendly guild of about 6 people is now a BWL guild. There is no instance we won't master in time. And the coolest thing is, people still have that "Hey Norm" attitude around here. Cheers!
